Revive

revivelondon.co.uk

Revive was founded on the basis of creating an environment which highlights the social and environmental flaws of the existing fashion industry. Our aim is to create an inclusive, creative hub which promotes sustainability, diversity, and a circular supply chain.

As a lifestyle brand, Revive promotes the slowing down and restructuring of the current fashion industry. We are pushing for an inclusive environment which educates and informs consumers on how to change their shopping habits and join the fight towards a more sustainable future.

Through talks with professionals and advocates within the industry, as well as sharing creative ethical tips, Revive hopes to introduce a new sustainable era for the fashion industry.

Gin & Jeans: A special event with Plymouth Gin and Revive

Revive and Plymouth Gin are hosting a special event at the Owl & Pussycat on Tuesday 21 September. Come along for an evening of jean mending and gin tasting. Teresa, from Revive, will be teaching simple embroidery and mending techniques which you will be able to apply to your denim, giving it a new shot of life!

In between prepping the latest collection and organising the Gin and Jeans event, we managed to grab five minutes with Revive founder, Teresa Carmona. She told us all about her inspiration, her love of individuality and what ‘community’ means to her.

What inspiration do you draw from Shoreditch?

Something that always inspired me from this part of London is people’s confidence to be unique and individual. So many people seem to their true selves, and so I love bringing this into my work. My pieces are all one of a kind and can be a great tool to highlight someone’s individuality.

Does your work reflect your community and if so, in what way?

I think I’m some ways my work does represent my community, or rather what I want my community to be. I play on themes of nature a lot, which I think is always something I crave in my surrounding. I really love this idea of urbanised nature and how we can live alongside it rather than living over it.

If you could collaborate with any Shoreditch-based artist - past or present, living or dead - who would you choose and why?

It’s really tough to choose because there are so many amazing artists in the area, however some of my favourite artists would be Thierry Noir or Ben Ein, their graffiti is so captivated and full of colour which is something I love to see.

Owl & Pussycat

Considered by many to be the soul of the street, the Owl & Pussycat has been serving pints to Redchurch regulars from as far back as the 1800’s. We spoke to bar manager Mike and asked him what he thinks makes Shoreditch a haven for creatives.

What is your history with Redchurch Street?

I have managed the Owl and Pussycat pub for almost 4 years and have really enjoyed getting involved with Redchurch street. Before I managed the Owl I used to frequent the area and pub regularly as it has a very relaxed and enjoyable vibe.

The Owl and Pussycat has been on the street for a long time, the building has been a pub since the 18th Century and has been known under a variety of names. The Owl and Pussycat pub is a part of the Redchurch Street history and will continue to help champion the wonderful street.

Why do you think it's important to champion independent design?

Shoreditch is an extremely creative area and we want to encourage budding artists to the area and champion independent design. Giving people the opportunity to see new designs and interact with the artists themselves is a huge opportunity for both parties and will continue to keep Shoreditch the creative destination it is.

What is it about Shoreditch that makes it such a creative hot spot?

Shoreditch is a very free flowing area where art and design can thrive. From galleries to street art and food pop ups to pubs, Shoreditch offers people of all backgrounds and interests to gather and share their work, opinions and interests.
